AUSA Hoops

About AUSA Hoops

Australia's pathway to US college basketball.

Founded in 2013. Built around one philosophy: be great. 340+ placements and counting.

Why we exist

For a young Australian basketball player, the US college pathway should be reachable but rarely is. The information is scattered. The recruiting calendar is foreign. The coaches are 14,000 kilometres away. And the people who are supposed to help you don’t always have first-hand experience of what they’re asking you to do.

We started AUSA Hoops in 2013 to fix that. We’d walked the pathway ourselves , learnt the hard way which tournaments mattered, which coaches were really watching, and which mistakes cost players their best shot. The plan was simple: build the program we wished had existed when we were players.

Founded by a player

AUSA Hoops was founded by Rhys Murphy , a former NCAA Division I basketball player , on a single philosophy: be great. Not be the best, not be famous. Be great at the things that matter: preparation, accountability, the details, the work nobody sees.

That philosophy still runs every tour, every trial, every conversation we have with a player or parent. It’s why our alumni walked off our tours into US college rosters , and why so many of them come back later to coach the next group through the same pathway.

The team

AUSA Hoops is run by full-time coaches, administrators, event coordinators, and college recruiting specialists. Every staff member is here because they care about the player walking through our door , not the prospect on a spreadsheet, but the specific kid trying to figure out their next step.

We’re proudly the official US tour provider for Basketball Victoria, Basketball Queensland, Basketball Tasmania, and partner programs across the country , including Melbourne Tigers Juniors, Norths, Comets, Spirit, Spiders, McKinnon, and Rebel Home of Basketball.

How we work

Three things we don’t compromise on.

01

Be honest

We don't sell dreams. We tell players and parents the truth about where they fit, what's realistic, and what the next step actually looks like.

02

Be prepared

Every tour is run as a business trip, practice schedules, study halls, conditioning, scouting reports. Players show up ready to compete because we've prepared them to.

03

Be great

The only standard worth setting. Whether on the court, in the classroom, or off it, be great at the things that matter.
