Who we are
We are AUSA Hoops, Australia’s leading pathway to college basketball in the States. We have helped over 180 players get to college in the States including everyone from players who missed rep teams to Junior National Team players. That’s more success stories than every other AAU Program in Australia, combined.
AUSA Hoops was founded in 2013 by Rhys Murphy, an Australian who played Division 1 College basketball in the US. Rhys was a “late bloomer” and fell through the cracks of the Australian basketball system. After finishing high school, and having no luck emailing college coaches, Rhys stumbled into an opportunity to play AAU basketball in Chicago, earning himself more than 50 scholarship offers. He chose to attend Oregon State over colleges like Butler, Gonzaga, Harvard and Davidson. From there, unfortunately his career went a little pear-shaped with a string of unfortunate injuries and he never spent much time on the court.
After graduation, Rhys came back home from the US to build the basketball program that he wished existed when he was in high school. 10 years on, AUSA is now a team of professionals who dedicate their time to providing opportunities to aspiring Australian basketballers.
We aren’t just a one man show, we have full time coaches, administrators, event coordinators and college recruiting specialists.
Beyond basketball, our program has a focus on mentoring through basketball with an emphasis on equipping our players with the mentality needed to succeed in life. The AUSA philosophy in two words; Be Great. We all have the potential to do great things, sometimes we just need the support to do them. At AUSA, we dedicate ourselves to providing our players with the opportunity and inspiration to chase their dreams.
We get it
Feeling nervous? We understand. Sending your not-so-little ones across the globe can make even the most relaxed parent’s heart beat just a little faster. We know because we’ve spoken with hundreds of parents with that same feeling. We understand it’s a big decision with lots of questions.
For most parents, their child’s safety is their biggest concern. Understanding if a program legitimately gives their child a chance to pursue their dreams can be confusing. Add on top the recruitment process and for most parents, this is uncharted territory. We’ve prepared this page to talk about those concerns. WHAT WE DO
Everything we do on our tour focuses on giving your child the best opportunity to achieve their college basketball dreams. By playing and competing in high-level AAU Tournaments against talented American players, we are providing the best platform available for your child to prove they have what it takes to earn a US college scholarship.
With AUSA Hoops tours, don’t expect a trip to Disneyland. This is not a holiday, it is a business trip. On our tour, your child will be pushed in practice, expected to attend study hall to prepare for their school exams, and take care of their bodies. Just like a Division I NCAA student-athlete. Our goal is to give AUSA players the best platform to pursue a college basketball scholarship.
When your child comes on tour, it is often the first time they can put their dream of playing college basketball into perspective. They see how hard college basketball can be and will likely face some adversity. We make a concerted effort to ensure that our players have all the support they need, people to lean on and mentors to talk through the challenges of chasing your dreams.
As much as we focus on providing a platform for college recruiting success, we provide a support system for personal growth. We strive to teach our players the work ethic, accountability, and consistency required to be a success in basketball and beyond. On tour, our coaches have regularly scheduled individual and team meetings with their players, ensuring the players can learn as much as possible from the physical, mental and emotional challenges they will face.
